Commander's intent

Purpose of BCMAP
-establishes, evaluates, and enforces compliance with optimal weight and body composition
standards and a suitable military appearance
-essential to the preservation of good order and discipline and necessary for the maintenance of
combat readiness marine corps wide
Scope of BCMAP
-all marines will be periodically evaluated for weight and military appearance in accordance with the
established frequency and sequence
*weigh ins can occur the same day as CFT/PFT
*CO can order weigh ins for entire unit or indiv.
*inspector general and commanding generals can also call for weigh ins while conducting
unannounced inspections
Frequency of weigh ins
at a minimum they are conducted semi-annually for every active duty and activated reservists
* reserve weigh ins are conducted annually
Medical exemptions
-a marine cannot be formally assigned to the BCP or MAP prior to receiving a medical evaluation
-all temporary medical exemptions require the endorsement of a board certified or board eligible
military physician (BCBEMP)
Body composition evaluation (BCE)
-structured program that addresses the needs of marines who do not meet the established height
and weight standards, present an unsuitable military appearance due to improper weight
distribution, or both
Height equipment
-standard non-stretching fiberglass tape measure (1/4 -5/8 wide and affixed to a vertical surface)
-wall mounted or self standing stadiometer
Weight equipment
-calibrated digital scale
-calibrated balance beam scale

-self tensioning taping device, digital
-self tensioning taping device, non-digital
Serious consequences of being on BCP/MAP
-not recommended for promotion
-not recommended for re-enlistment
-marine is discharged
Height measurement procedure
1. ensure marine is not wearing footwear
2. standing w/ back against wall, heels flat on deck, shoulders back, arms to the side, head straight
and forward
3. if using ruler, ensure it is parallel to the deck
4. record marine's height to nearest inch (less than 1/2 inch = round down, 1/2 inch or greater =
round up)
Weight measurement procedure
1. ensure marine is not wearing footwear
2. both feet on scale
3. feet centered in middle of scale
4. marine's hands by their side
5. record weight to nearest pound (subtract 1 pound for uniform)
A marine has to go to BCE if they are not within height and weight standards and do not have a ___

Neck measurement procedures:
1. with head straight forwards and chin parallel to deck, place curves portion of self-tensioning
device on the right neck muscle so it conforms to the natural curvature of the neck muscle. the tape
crosses the bottom of the larynx and is perpendicular to the long axis of the neck
2. place rod at the end of tape into slot of the self-tensioning device then press the button so the
tape retracts to a snug fit
3. record, rounding up to nearest 1/2 inch
abdomen measurement procedures:
1. marines head straight forward, chin parallel to deck, shoulders are down, arms are at side in
relaxed manner, heels flat on deck
