NORMALIZATION AND DATABASE DESIGN 2
A. Construct a normalized physical database model to Represent the ordering
process.
A-1 Nora’s Bagel Bin 2NF
To create the second standard form of the original table, three tables—Bagel
Order, Bagel Order Line Item, and Bagel—had to be created (2NF). This was required so
that the primary key would be required for the non-key attributes to function. The Bagel
Order ID is the primary key. The Bagel table contains both the Bagel ID and the Bagel
Order table. Order Line Item for the third table's bagels. Primary keys from Table 2 are
foreign keys. Additionally, this table serves as an associative table. They are referred to as
where the bagel order and the bagel intersect.
From left to right, there is a many-to-one link between the Bagel Order and the
Bagel Order Line Item. The association, when read from right to left, is one to many. This
allows a bagel order, which must have at least one item to be deemed an order but may
contain more, to contain a variety of order line items. The two tables are connected,
hence the cardinality when read is many-to-one.
This is done so that a bagel order, which must have at least one item to be
considered an order but need not be limited to that, may contain multiple order line items.
When read is many-to-one because of the relationship between the two tables
