Criteria Task
TASK A
A1. Assessment overview (type, purpose,
and expected outcomes of the
assessment)
Type: Formative Assessment 10-Questions practice quiz
Purpose: To assess each student's understanding of epidemiologic frameworks and
methods for studying group, community, and population health and health-related
events.
Expected Outcome: the student will learn about basic concepts of epidemiology,
interpret data to identify health issues, evaluate epidemiologic research and apply
findings to nursing practice.
A2. Module title (C920 material) Basic concepts in Epidemiology
Course objectives (C920 material) By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Explain epidemiology and describes its elements and approach.
2. Infer basic epidemiologic measures of morbidity and mortality.
3. Evaluate epidemiologic research and apply findings to nursing practice.
Student learning outcomes (C920
material)
After completing this module, students will be able to:
1) Interpret epidemiologic data to identify key health issues.
2) Describe the accuracy and constraints of public health screening programs.
A2a. Assessment Activity Alignment (i.e.,
align your selected assessment activity
with course objective and student
learning outcomes)
Course Objectives (CO) 1-3: This 10-item assessment activity is closely related to
the course objectives because students will learn about the basic concepts of
epidemiology related to interpreting the results of epidemiologic investigations and
data. In addition, students will be able to evaluate epidemiologic research and apply
findings to nursing practice.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) 1-2: This 10-item assessment activity is well
aligned with the student learning outcomes because students will show proficiencies
in this module by interpreting epidemiologic data and describing the accuracy and
constraints of public health screening programs.
A3. Cognitive level to be measured by the
formative assessment
The Bloom's taxonomy cognitive domains that relate to the action verbs used in the
course objectives explain, infer, and evaluate, are analyzing, applying, and
evaluating. This assessment will examine students' understanding of the
epidemiologic framework and methods.
A4. Item Types (i.e., multiple-choice
items, fill in the blanks, etc.) 1. Multiple-choice questions
2. Fill-in-the blanks
A5. Number of Items (on formative
assessment) 10 items: 8 Multiple choices and 2 fill-in-the-blanks
Section B: Basic concepts in Epidemiology 10-Questions practice quiz
Formative Assessment Instructions (Student Facing)
B1. Assessment Instructions
Purpose: This formative assessment activity is to assess your understanding of the basic concepts of epidemiology, interpret data to
identify health issues, evaluate epidemiologic research and apply findings to nursing practice.
Description: You will be required to read the following materials and visit the website provided. By the end of the readings there will
be a 10-questions practice quiz to assess your understanding of the content. You can email your instructor or schedule a meeting via
the student portal for any questions and concerns.
Format: 10-Questions practice quiz
Assessment Instructions:
Read Chapter 10 Epidemiology pp 222-239:

community (8th ed.). Elsevier Mosby. ISBN: 9780323080019
Visit the following website and read articles regarding epidemiology:

This assessment consists of 10 items, including multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. Each item is valued at 10
points, for a total of 100. Students must adequately answer at least 7 out of 10 questions to receive a passing score of at least 70%.
Students will have thirty minutes to complete this task. Students must arrive on time, and those who come 5 minutes or more after the
assessment's start time will not be permitted to take the exam. Only students with excused absences will be allowed to make up this
assignment's test.
When and Where: This assessment will be administered in the computer lab of the Nursing Building on July 29, 2022, at 1000.
Please schedule enough time for travel and parking. The instructor will let students into the computer lab 10 minutes before the start of
the exam. Students will be expected to put all personal belongings in the cubicle at the back of the computer lab, and no individual
objects will be permitted at the computer stations. Each student will receive a sheet of paper and a pencil. Each student will log in to
the classroom's online login to access the exam. The instructor will walk around the classroom to ensure all students are logged into
the classroom site and can take the exam. The instructor will activate the test at the appropriate time, allowing pupils to click the Take
Test button. Once the button is clicked, students will have thirty minutes to complete this assessment. Students will be unable to pause
the examination. Students will be unable to return to previously answered questions. Please raise your hand if you have any questions,
and the instructor will assist you.
Grading: After question 10, students click the Submit button to reveal their final score. Then, students will be permitted to exit the
computer lab. If necessary, students may make an appointment with the teacher to review any exam portion. This formative
