Ventricular tachycardia: Answer A rapid heart rhythm in which the electrical impulse begins in the ventricle (instead of the atrium), which may result in inadequate blood flow and eventually deteriorate into cardiac arrest. Tx: Antiarrhythmics, defibrillation (if pulseless) or cardioversion (if pulse) 2. Asystole: Answer absence of contractions of the heart Tx: CPR, rapid assessment, correct underlying cause (H's & T's) *unshockable* 3. Hemodynamic monitoring: Answer the use of pressure monitoring devices to directly measure cardiovascular function Location: Phlebostatic axis (4th intercostal space, mid-axillary) 4. Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP): Answer pressure forcing blood into tissues, averaged over cardiac cycle [(2xD)+S]/3 5. AllenTest Procedure: Answer 1. Rest hand palm up 2. Make a fist 3. Occlude radial/ulnar arteries with thumb 4. Fist released-pale at first 5. Release ulnar artery-Color should return; then release radial artery. Color returns in 7- 10 seconds (positive)
