Morphine - ANS-Opioid given for pain relief

Adverse effects: pupil constriction, respiratory depression, urinary retention, hypothermia

Administer Naloxone for toxicity

Hydrocodone - ANS-Prescribed for pain relief; opioid

Take with food or milk to reduce GI discomfort

Pain relief starts within 20 minutes and lasts 4-6 hours

Do NOT crush or chew

Adverse effects: respiratory depression

May be combined with Acetaminophen for pain relief

Nalbuphine - ANS-Opioid prescribed for pain relief

Adverse effects: blurred vision

Butophanol - ANS-Opioid prescribed for pain relief

Administer Naloxone for adverse effects

Indomethacin - ANS-NSAID prescribed for pain relief and inflammation

Adverse effects: dizziness, vertigo, muscle weakness, N/V, anorexia, weight loss

Cefazolin - ANS-Cephalosporin first generation antibiotic

Administer Epinephrine for adverse/anaphylactic IV infusion reaction

Concurrent use with Gentamicin increases risk for nephrotoxicity

Cross sensitivity with Penicillins

Ciprofloxacin - ANS-Used for UTIs

Adverse effects: achilles tendon rupture, especially in older adults and patients who take glucocorticoids

Increase fluid intake to prevent renal calculi

Milk products and antacids decrease absorption and effects of this drug

Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole - ANS-Used for UTIs

Adverse effects: Steven-Johnson syndrome and photosensitivity

Gentamicin - ANS-Antibiotic

Adverse effects: ototoxicity, inflammation of the liver and spleen, twitching, flaccid paralysis

Concurrent use with Cefazolin increases risk of renal toxicity

Doxycycline - ANS-Antibiotic

Adverse effects: delayed development of bones and teeth

AVOID while pregnant

Metronidazole - ANS-Used to treat trichomoniasis
