SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE RISK
Welcome to the Orientation
Today's agenda is to give you an overview of the course, what we will cover, and the duration of the
course. We will also discuss why climate risk has become important in the banking landscape. Towards
the end, we will answer any questions or feedback you may have.
Course Focus
The main focus of this course is to prepare you for the SCR certificate exam conducted by GARP. The
exam consists of roughly 200 pages and eight chapters. We aim to cover the core syllabus in the next
two to two and a half months, leaving you with one and a half months for revision. The exam is nonmathematical, but requires a lot of memorization. We will provide mind maps, flashcards, and
infographics to help with efficient recollection.
There are two main reasons why you should do this exam. Firstly, climate risk has become extremely
important in the banking industry, and there is a high demand for climate risk professionals. Secondly,
the price of the certification will increase as the syllabus expands, so now is a good time to do it.
Regulatory Landscape
Alongside the exam preparation, we will cover the regulatory landscape. Basel and IFRS have released
papers on climate risk, and banks are required to comply with climate risk-related disclosures.
Understanding the regulatory landscape is important for job prospects in this field and will help you
connect the dots between the core material and the regulations.

Modeling Climate Risks
Independent agencies have used climate models for weather forecasting, but banks are now starting to
incorporate climate risks into their traditional risk measures. We will discuss how climate risks affect
credit risk, market risk, and operational risk. This includes incorporating additional risk factors into
probability of default calculations and conducting climate-related stress tests and scenario analysis
