INTRODUCTION
The school I teach at is a title one public charter high school that focuses on
college preparation and leadership. We are a small school of around 350 students in
total, making our class sizes no more than 25 students per class. I teach World History,
so I see every sophomore that attends our school. My school is predominantly
Hispanic, with a small population that does not speak English. We have a close-knit
school community where all staff and students are willing and able to help each other at
any given moment. We also have a strong sports community, mainly our soccer,
baseball and softball teams.
Academically, we have a wide variety of needs and students who excel. Our
SPED students have resource teachers who rotate between their classes daily to
ensure they receive the support they need. As well as accommodations that every
teacher is supplied with. We also have students who have exemplary Lexile scores and
are able to withstand more rigorous courses we offer such as honors and advanced
placement.
When it comes to my classroom specifically, I use multiple modalities in order to
help aid each student with different learning habits and abilities. I incorporate different
technologies, lectures and activities to help students gain a full scope of the information,
with different ways in which to learn the material. I also steer more towards projectbased learning, rather than traditional test taking, to help facilitate a wider range of
knowledge and ability to showcase aptitude.
