1. Description
Malnutrition:
Answer disorder of nutrition caused by primary deprivation of protein-energy(seen in
poverty or self-imposed starvation) or secondary to deficiency diseases (such as cancer or
diabetes).
2. Signs and symptoms of malnutrition:
Answer loss of energy, diarrhea, drastic weightchange, skin lesions, loss of hair, poor
nails, and generalized edema; delayed healing and greasy stools
3. More advanced signs and symptoms of malnutrition:
Answer muscle wasting (mostnoticeably in the temporalis and interosseus muscles),
enlarged glands, and hepatomegaly
4. Malabsorption syndrome:
Answer refers to a group of disorders in which intestinalabsorption of dietary nutrients is
impaired.
5. A person with malabsorption syndrome:
Answer has impaired digestion and is unableto absorb fat or certain other components of
diet.
6. Malabsorption syndrome symptoms:
Answer
abdominal discomfort, bloating with gas,chronic diarrhea, and abnormal bowel
movements.
Stools may appear yellowish gray and may be greasy looking.
