1. What isTetralogy of Fallot (TOF)?:
Answer Congenital heart defect with 4 structural defects. This does now allow the infant
to receive oxygenated blood.
2. What are the heart defectsinTetralogy of Fallot?:
Answer
-Right ventricle hypertrophy
-Aorta displacement
-Pulmonary stenosis
-Ventricular septal defect
3. Describe the flow of blood in the heart withTetralogy of Fallot?:
Answer SVC, right atrium, enlarged right ventricle, HOLE, mixing of blood between the
two ventricles, unoxygenated blood is now in the left ventricle, the aorta is over the hole
pumping out unoxygenated blood.
4. How does pulmonary stenosis play a role in Tetralogy of Fallot?:
Answer The blood going in the right direction of the right ventricle to the lungs is
extremely limited due to stenosis, further limiting oxygenated blood from getting pumped
out.
5. Signs and symptoms ofTetralogy of Fallot?:
Answer
-Activity: cyanosis, SOB, in- creased RR, Tet spell
-Fingernail changes: clubbing (chronic hypoxia, 6 mos.)
-Fatigue/faints easily: chronic low oxygen levels (activity intolerance)
-Inability to grow:smaller for age (need oxygen to grow)
-Cardiac sounds: abnormalsounds, systolic murmur and thrill (left ofsternal border)
Trouble feeding/thriving: low weight, small, decreased in meeting developmental
milestones
