USING TELEHEALTH AND MOBILE DEVICES TO REDUCE OPIOD OVERPRESCRIPTION AND OVERDOSES 2 Abstract The United States is one of several countries which is still fighting to adjust to and deal with the ongoing crisis of opioid drug misuse and overdose. There are groups of people who exhibit increased vulnerability to this syndrome, especially U.S. veterans, with their collective histories of combat-related physical, emotional, and psychological injuries. Modern healthcare is oriented toward serving veterans who are geographically closer to facilities than those living in rural areas. This project is intended to explore, develop, and implement a mobile device-based application that will help patients and providers in managing opioid pain medication prescriptions, and to decrease the incidence of dual prescriptions that raise the risk of opioid overdose
