Catalog Description
This course will examine and trace the development of United States history from the post-Civil
War Reconstruction period to the present. It will focus upon the political, social, and economic
factors that have played an important role in the growth of the nation.
Student Learning Objectives
Students taking any section of HIST 1220-602 will by the end of the course:
1) identify and describe the key people and events that have propelled the United States to the
superpower status it enjoys today.
2) examine the United States’ effect on the 20th century and how it influenced other nations to
develop their own democratic systems of government.
3) discuss some of the important American social, religious, economical, technological, and
cultural developments/discoveries that impacted modern society.
4) investigate and assess the United States’ role in the 21st century and determine if it is
positive or negative for the world.

You will not need to purchase the book or Connect! It is included in your tuition for this course! ! DO NOT
PURCHASE THESE MATERIALS FROM THE BOOKSTORE OR ONLINE.

Blackboard course. Note that for your grades to register correctly, you must ALWAYS LOG IN THROUGH
