1. Pediatric IV Fluid Maintenance Formula:

100/50/20 Rule :IV Fluids Needed in a Day
100 mL/kg for the first 10 kg (1-10 kg)
50 mL/kg for the next 10 kg (11-20 kg)
20 ml/kg for every kg after (21 kg and above)
Divide the result by 24 for the hourly maintenance rate.
2. IV normal saline (0.9%):

Simple saline solution.
Crystalloid.
Isotonic.
Will not cause electrolyte imbalance except in cases of kidney disease, CHF, or other
situations that may cause fluid overload.
3. IV half-normal saline (0.45%):

Diluted saline solution.
Crystalloid.
Hypotonic.
Used for concentrated electrolytes.
Risk for electrolyte deficiency.
4. IV Hypertonic Saline (1.8%):
Answer
Concentrated saline solution.
Crystalloid.
Hyper- tonic.
May be given for severe hypernatremia.
Risk for swelling of brain.
